Details

The Omron NE-U22V is the smallest, lightest (only 6 ounces with batteries inserted), and most portable nebulizer available for the aerosol dependent patient. The Vibrating Mesh Technology (V.M.T.) creates a dense therapeutic mist by moving the medication through a mesh metal alloy. The mesh nebulizes the medication to a particle size of 5 microns, allowing for 98% medication delivery in shorter times than most larger nebulizers.

Unlike traditional ultrasonic nebulizers, the Omron MicroAir's Vibrating Mesh Technology does not transfer heat to the medication, so it can be used with nearly any inhaled medication. It is capable of delivering most liquid medications such as Albuterol®, Alupent®, Brokosol®, Isuprel®, Pulmicort Respules®, Proventil®, Ventolin®, Xopenex®, DuoNeb® and Intal®. Included is a small protective case about the size of a glasses case, allowing users to easily take their Omron NE U22V nebulizer with them everywhere. The portability of the Omron Micro-Air is unmatched!

Setting the bar for portable nebulizers, the Omron Micro-Air has earned top reviews from buyers due to its reliability, convenient size, easy to use design, unique powering options (can use AA batteries), and silent operation. While it's only slightly larger than an inhaler, don’t let its small size fool you, as it produces respiratory relief unmatched by other portable nebulizers.

This product requires that you regularly replace the vibrating mesh cap every 6 months to maintain its peak performance, so consider adding one to your order to keep your unit running smoothly for a whole year. The Omron MicroAir can be used with an optional pediatric or adult mask.

What's in the box: compressor, unit cover, medication cup (7 ml capacity), mesh cap, mouthpiece, a universal adapter for masks and "T"-pieces, a convenient carrying case, and an instructional DVD. An optional AC adapter is available but not included.

  • 5 stars, Nice
By AvsfanAllan from Burlington, WI on 2013-05-10
    Pros: Portable
    Cons: none
Best Uses: Fits In Her Purse
I bought this for my wife, her last neb was big heavy and just to big when we travel. This one allows her to be more mobile. It's nice and small and very quiet. My wife is a respiratory therapist for over 20 years and has used many nebs in her career, when she opened the box and started assembling the neb I over heard her say to herself, "Nice" enough said, I believe she likes it very much.

  • 5 stars, Life Saver!
By Tam from San Mateo, CA on 2013-05-06
    Pros: Easy, Elderly Friendly, Convenient
    Best Uses: Daily life
Ease to use, lid to open for liquids can be a little difficult to open, just have patients. My 81 year old father calls this a life restorer. He loves to leave the house now that he has this device.

  • 5 stars, Cannot be without it
By For Your Information from Boynton Beach, Florida on 2013-05-06
    Pros: Small but efficient
    Cons: Sometimes leaks
Best Uses: It Is So Versatile
The Omron Nebulizer is small enough to take with me anywhere. It gives the same results as all the larger type of nebulizers, and it has helped me considerably with my asthma. I use it twice a day, and a number of times it has stopped me from having an asthma attack.

  • 4 stars, It's a little tricky
By BreathinEasy from Terre Haute IN on 2013-05-05
    Pros: Compact, Extremely Quiet, Lightweight
Cons: Requires Distilled Water, Tricky to Use
    Best Uses: Travel
I bought this for travel and it serves that purpose well because it is so lightweight and quiet. It can be little tricky to use - you have to hold it at a precise angle or it won't nebulize - and too sharp an angle and it floods the microscreen and won't nebulize - the only way to correct that is to carefully wick the excess, wasting medicine. I also don't like having to carry distilled water to clean it. Nonetheless, it does work well with practice, and it beats carrying a heavy standard nebulizer unit.

    Pros: Assume, awesome
    Cons: Leaks Under Screen
    Best Uses: Anywhere
this unit is faster and uses every drop of meds.great as a take along when out and about. the only problem is that it leaks fron under the screen. i can handle that.

  • 5 stars, Great Product
By Rileys mom from Omaha, NE on 2013-05-03
It is a wonderful product, can even use it while driving

  • 4 stars, Just the Right Size
By Janei from Indiana on 2013-05-03
Pros: Quiet, Small, Good output, Easy instructions
Cons: Cleaning Detail, Too Small Case
Best Uses: Car, In My Purse For Quick Use, traveling, Back Pack, Watching Tv
With the negative reviews about the output of medicine stopping, I was concerned. But I ordered anyway because I needed/wanted a smaller/quieter unit (I get embarassed in public with nebulizer noise). It did stop at one point during my first use when the medicine was low. BUT that was a learning curve for me. The MESH CAP had to have liquid covering it. I played with it to find the best angle for me and it worked from that point on. The item was quick to put together. The output exceeded that of my previous portable. I took It with me on a long plane trip and there was no noise and no one looked while I did a treatment. The airport had no problem with it either. Packing space was reduced. The carry-case provided is perfect for my purse but I had to work to get two batteries and 4 medicine vials in it-but it does fit. I only wish it had a carry bag for the adapters and other parts/meds. But not a problem as I will sew one that fits my needs.

  • 5 stars, Excellent Choice
By RobinDolphin from Berkeley, CA on 2013-05-02
Pros: Easy Maintenance, Compact, Effective, Uses standard batteries, Efficient
    Cons: Expensive
    Best Uses: Anytime, Travel, BEDSIDE
I use this for my autistic son who has asthma and allergies frequently. It is small and easy to carry, and seems to provide relief for him much faster than the big, clumsy, desktop nebulizers.

  • 5 stars, Fabulous travel nebulier
By EBJ from Orange, CA on 2013-05-02
Pros: Quick and thorough, Easy to clean, Uses standard batteries
I use this nebulizer for travel, particularly air travel when plugging in and finding a space to deal with medicine can be so hard. Now, I can use it right on the plane! I'm delighted.

Questions on Omron Micro-Air Electronic Nebulizer System NE-U22V

  • From John
    • How often does the mesh cap on the Omron Micro-Air Electronic Nebulizer System NE-U22V need to be replaced if the nebulizer is used 3 times a day?
    • The manufacturer recommends you replace the mesh cap every 6 months.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes  No
  • From camilo
    • why can you use pulmicort with this ultrasonic nebulizer?
    • For most ultrasonic nebulizers, the heat produced through the vibration is not good for Pulmicort. After speaking with the manufacturer, however, this nebulizer utilizes the V.M.T., which does not heat up like other units, so it is approved for use with Pulmicort Respules. For a full list of approved medications for this nebulizer, please check out the additional information.

    • Where can you get the mesh cap and how much is it?

  • From Laura
    • How long does it take to deliver a single dose solution (ie. Albuterol)?
    • This nebulizer aerosols medication at a rate of at least .25 mL per minute. If you know how many mL you dose is, multiple it by 4 and that should give you an idea of how long your treatments will be. A thin liquid like Albuterol will take less time to nebulize than a thicker medication. If you notice your nebulization rate slowing, it may be time to change your mesh cap to ensure you machine is working as efficiently as possible.

    • I ordered this product and have been trying it out-we are getting ready to go to Alaska and I wanted something I could carry with me at all times and yet not be big and bulky like my other one. However, it will work for just a little while then quit nebulizing and I have to wait awhile for it to work again. I know it is not the batteries as they are brand new. The booklet says to tilt it towards the on/off button and when I do it seems to make it quit nebulizing quicker? What am I doing wrong? I really want this to work for me, but if it doesn't I will need to send it back.
      Thanks
    • Your satisfaction is our priority. According to the manufacturer, as long as that unit is properly cleaned and disinfected (meaning it is rinsed with distilled water after each use and disinfected with vinegar and water nightly) and there is no residual moisture on top of the mesh cap, it should not be cutting off. Try a new set of batteries to be sure it is not a battery issue. If that does not work, please call the manufacturer for a warranty repair/replacement. There is a 2 year warranty on this item held by the manufacturer. The manufacturer's number is 877-216-1333. If you have any other questions, please let us know.

    • is it safe to use by a 5 years old kid?
    • Yes, this nebulizer is safe to use by patients of all ages. This nebulizer is a great alternative to MDI, as it is small enough to carry in a purse or backpack, but it provides the trusted treatment of a full-size tabletop nebulizer.

    • Can this unit be used for a 4 year old with a pediatric mask? If so, where can i buy the appropriate mask & adapter (if needed)?
      Many Thanks
    • You can use this unit for a 4 year old. You would just need to purchase a pediatric mask, Pediatric Mask for ALL Omron Nebulizers, to attach to the top of the nebulizer, and it would be ready.

    • Is there a way to use an adult mask with the NE-U22V? I am looking for a way to use this unit hands-free, as I do my desktop compressor nebulizer, so that I can work at the computer, write, etc. while nebulizing. So there would need to be a way to support the NE-U22V, either on the desk or strapped to me so that I could walk around while nebulizing. Suggestions?
    • You can use an adult mask the the NE-U22V nebulizer. With an elastic strap, the mask can be held in place, hands free, although without support, the nebulizer system will become disconnected. You would have to have a way of supporting the nebulizer system in order to use it hands free. We do not have a solution as to how you can use this nebulizer completely hands free as it will need to be supported to protect it from becoming disconnected from any mask or mouthpiece while in use.

    • Can I use saline drops in this for my 6 month old who constantly suffers from colds and coughs?
    • Depending on the particles and the size of the particles in the saline you can. When using a saline solution you need to be sure that the particles are not so large that they damage/block up the mesh cap.

    • Does the unit have to be cleaned with distilled water and vinegar after every use? If so how do users manage this on long flights? If my trip lasts 12 - 18 hours and I expect to use the unit 4 times during that time period, it sounds like this might be a problem. Alternately, can the unit be simply rinsed with bottled water during the trip and then given a thorough cleaning on arrival at the destination?
    • According to the Omron representative it will depend on which medication you are using. It does need to be disinfected each time to avoid the unit gumming up on you. Her suggestion was to mix the solution before your trip and take it with you in a water bottle. The mix should be 1 part vinegar 2 part water.

    • #1. Many reviews state used in cars and other places. How does one clean it after each use?
      #2. Can I purchase without a prescription?
#3. Can something other then vinegar be used? It causes problems for me.
#4. Restrictions on planes of carrying liquids - how do I carry disinfectant/distilled water when liquids are against regulations?
#5. Can I attach a nebulizer (mouth piece with tubing) to this device? If so, is the medicine (albuterol) inserted the same way as with my table top unit? Does this bypass the mesh screen issues so many people complain about?
    • To properly maintain the unit please clean it using only distilled water. Regular water, vinegar, or any other cleaning solution will ruin the mesh cap. The unit does not have to be cleaned immediately after each use. If you are in a car or an airplane and are unable to clean it with distilled water, you may wait until you are in an area where you are able to clean it with distilled water. This nebulizer has been cleared by the TSA to be used on airplanes. You can download the necessary TSA paperwork that is required to bring it on the airplane on Omron's website. The unit cannot be used with a standard nebulizer set and one cannot bypass the mesh cap as it is vital for the machine to work.

  • From Jane
    • 1. Would the device work reliably when used 4-6 times a day and cleaned once at the end of the day?
      2. How do you take distilled water on planes and across borders? Many do not allow distilled water even for medical devices.
      3. What is a specific alternative to vinegar? Could you include brand names, links, etc.?
      4. Is any part dishwasher safe?
      5. Does it require extra water for dilution?
    • 1. You must rinse this nebulizer after each use. The fine mesh screen will clog if you do not rinse after each use.
      2. For airplanes, refer to the TSA website for special medical requirements. If you are traveling, purified and de-mineralized water can be used in a pinch. You want to avoid mineral build-up with most bottled and drinking water.
      3. The alternative to vinegar is the use a very mild solution of dish washing detergent and water. Do not use household disinfectants or bleach as these cause damage to the mesh cap and membrane.
      4. No part of this nebulizer is dishwasher safe. If you are looking for a portable nebulizer with dishwasher and boil safe components, you may want to look at the PARI Trek S, which is a battery powered compressor.
      5. Dilution depends on the medication. For very viscous solutions, you will need to dilute the medication. You will also need distilled water to clean the nebulizer after each use.

    • I have purchased this item and am confused about cleaning it. The instruction book says to wash the mesh cap, and the medication bottle etc in warm soapy water (the clear implication is that tap water is OK). The instructions go on to say that I am to rinse the parts (including the mesh cap) in clean tap water, then leave them on a clean surface to air dry.

Yet your answers to some of the questions imply I should not let tap water touch the mesh cap in any circumstances?
    • According to the Omron Micro-Air Electronic Nebulizer System NE-U22V instructions, it is important to use only distilled water after each use to prevent any remaining medication in the bottle from drying, adhering to the mesh cap, and resulting in
      the device not nebulizing effectively.

      Follow the instructions below:

Wash the Medication Bottle, Mesh Cap, Mask, Mouthpiece, and Mask
Adapter after each use. It is important to clean your unit using distilled water after each use.

      1. Remove the Mouthpiece or Mask and the Mask Adapter from the Main Unit.
      2. Remove the Medication Bottle from the Main Unit.
      3. Open the Medication Bottle and discard any remaining medication.
      4. Attach the Medication Bottle to the Main Unit. Open the Mesh Cap.
      5. Pour a small amount of distilled water into the Medication Bottle and close
      the Mesh Cap.
      6. Turn on the device to nebulize the distilled water for 1 to 2 minutes to remove
residual medication from the mesh holes.
      7. Turn off the device and remove the Medication Bottle from the Main Unit.
      8. Remove the Mesh Cap from the Medication Bottle and discard any remaining
distilled water from the Medication Bottle.
      9. Rinse the Medication Bottle, Mesh Cap, Mask, Mouthpiece, and Mask Adapter with
      distilled water.
      10. Gently wipe off excess water with a soft clean cloth or allow the parts to air dry in
      a clean environment.
      11. Assemble the device. Store the device in the Storage Case or in a clean environment.

Additional Info

Safe for use with most solution medications, including Albuterol®, Alupent®, Brokosol®, Isuprel®, Pulmicort Respules®, Proventil®, Ventolin®, Xopenex®, DuoNeb® and Intal®

Vibrating Mesh Technology is the use of low frequency vibration (180 kHz) produced by a horn transducer that pushes medication through a metal alloy mesh plate with over 6000 holes to create an efficient, therapeutic, low velocity aerosol.

Unlike Metered Dose Inhalers (MDI's) with "high velocity" aerosol delivery, difficult inhalation techniques and the need for "spacing devices", the Micro-Air delivers low velocity aerosol and requires no coordination issues with breathing. This makes Micro-Air suitable for use with all patients regardless of age. Micro-Air's efficient VMT system delivers to the last drop of medication and can operate with small volumes starting as low as 0.5ml. Micro-Air's low frequency requires less power consumption, allowing for operation from two "AA" batteries and reducing weight to 6 ounces. Add to this a profile comparable to today's new cellular phones and you have the optimal nebulizer for today's active respiratory patient.
